NYSE & ASTRAZENECA PROTESTS IN LONDON

We took the opportunity to demonstrate outside the NYSE/Euronext injunction with a very loud, very vibrant demonstration at both entrances of their offices (normally we would not be able to demonstrate at the more important entrance.) Four or five megaphones were used to fantastic effect as our chanting was constant for about 2 hours and the energy of the protesters was particularly high. We had about 17 people for the demonstration which is also more than we would normally be allowed at NYSE. Some of the NYSE security staff, who are normally fairly happy with our demonstrations within the injunction, were visibly irritated by the volume and relentlessness of the noise we were producing.

AstraZeneca, predictably, was our next target, and we arrived and started a loud meaningful demonstration outside their offices for about half an hour until a couple of cop cars showed up. They enforced section 14, despite lengthy discussion about whether the section 14 was justified or not. The officer, despite being reasonable to talk to, stuck by his reason behind the issuing of section 14 because he felt it was our intention to intimidate people who work in the building.
This is an insult to SHAC and everyone who campaigns for that torture laboratory to close. There was absolutely no intent on our part to intimidate people and all we want to do is exercise our right in an apparently free and democratic society to protest against something we don't like. Reluctantly, and with much argument, we moved over the other side of the road, and finished the demonstration shortly afterwards. This does not mean that we agree with the use of section 14 here, just that we thought we had enough evidence that we didn't need to put someone through the hassle of getting arrested and spending hours in a police cell.

Additionally, the charges against 2 campaigners for breach of section 14 at AstraZeneca in November have been dropped. This, again, clearly shows that the police are not going to go to court with these illegitimate section 14s.

Until next week...
