WAR NAMES AND SHAMES PARK AVENUE PUPPY KILLERS

Demo #1: Derryck Maughan, Director GlaxoSmithKline

The first stop of this brutally cold winter day in New York City was the swanky hi-rise apartment of Derryck Maughan. Derryck lives on the second floor, all the better to hear our loud voices. In keeping with the 45 court ordered buffer zone, activists gathered across 71st Street, allowing them to look straight into the doors of Maughan's building. By the looks on the doormen's faces, it seemed that they thought that activists had abandoned any idea of influencing GlaxoSmithKline's Derryck Maughan. But, nothing could be further from the truth.

Voices of a dozen activists rang strong and in unison as Maughan was named and shamed once again for his uptown neighbors. Literature was distributed and graphic posters of the bloody mutilated remains of precious beagle puppies were exhibited to all of Maughan’s neighbors. Mid afternoon on a Sunday saw many Park Avenue residents walking their dogs and drawn to the loud chanting and colorful signage.

Three patrol cars, full of police officers, were shortly joined by yet a fourth car. All that for a dozen peaceful protesters? After a lengthy meeting in the building, a delegation was sent out to speak to the demonstrators who offered documentation that proper notification (as per the court order) was sent to the 19th Precinct and received there. It seems that building management told the police that there was an Order of Protection for Derryck. Apparently everyone was misinformed, as there is no Order of Protection. After checking the fax notification of the demonstration, the police officer told protesters that everything was in order and to carry on.

Demo #2: James Robinson, Chairman Bristol-Myers Squibb
Next stop on the Park Avenue Puppy Killer route was the spectacular home of James D. Robinson, III, Chairman of the Board of the beleaguered Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS). Jim didn't seem to be at home, but, as usual, his neighbors were all busy coming and going from the building. Many stopped to chat with protesters who have become a fixture in this posh and usually quiet neighborhood.

Activists stood under scaffolding in front of the building next door to Jim Robinson's exclusive building in order to be in compliance with the court ordered 45. The tunnel effect was awesome as it amplified activists raised voices. 15 activists braved the cold and bone chilling wind to name and shame Jim Robinson. One WAR activist was heard to say WAR never gives up, never gives in and always wins.

Demo #3: Lloyd Blankfein, Chairman & CEO Goldman Sachs

As daylight faded and temperatures dropped even further, activists vented their rage and their anger by putting forth even more effort for the last demo of the day. At the corner of 81st Street and Park Avenue stands the luxurious hi-rise building of Lloyd Blankfein, Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs and an important investor in the NYSE Euronext. Once again, activists took the time to explain to passersby the connection between Huntingdon Life Sciences (trading as LSR, Life Sciences Research) and Goldman Sachs.

Many, upon hearing that Goldman Sachs was complicit, shook their heads in disgust that anyone would give financial assistance to the killers that murder 500 animals every day including beagle puppies, pregnant rabbits and infant monkeys. not to mention the tens of thousands of lab rats and mice. And all for what? For toothpaste and tanning lotion and crap products like Splenda and Viagra. Activists vowed to keep on returning until Goldman Sachs uses it's influence to get LSR off of the NYSE Arca Exchange. We'll be back, Lloyd, and we'll be angrier than ever!!!.
