NYSE & ASTRAZENCA DEMOS IN LONDON

We arrived at the NYSE on Dowgate Hill expecting to do a demonstration outside the injunction period of 21 days, but slightly miscalculated and had to demonstrate in accordance with the injunction. However, it worked out very well because with the new snazzy companies list in the entrance we now know that NYSE Euronext still occupy a decent portion of that building, contrary to what we were previously told. Thank you to whoever made that sign! We had a good demonstration here and it has encouraged us to visit this location more regularly, even if it means having to obey the ridiculous injunction. We stayed for about 45 minutes, and then headed off to AstraZeneca.

When we turned up at AstraZeneca we half expected there to be a fleet of Metropolitan police riot vans to greet us, but there were strangely no police to be found. We started a really powerful and determined demonstration, with 3 megaphones being utilised to let the AstraZeneca workers know exactly what we think of their company policy of torturing animals inside HLS. People who were in the nearest meeting rooms quickly vacated. The chanting was constant for the entire demonstration. Good support from the locals as normal at this demo, as we policed ourselves. The Astrazeneca staff were getting irritated; one of their employees poked his head out of the side door and looked around for the police at one stage, but they were nowhere to be seen! Apparently, large numbers of police had been drafted in to look after the visiting French president, so that worked perfectly for SHAC. We demonstrated as we should always be able to: peacefully, passionately, loudly and outside the right building!! When the police finally showed up after about an hour, we had demonstrated enough and didn't want to give them the pleasure of section 14'ing us across the road... again!!

Overall a big victory for SHAC today, against the animal abusers and the Metropolitan police. Nice to note that we can demonstrate properly when there's a foreign dignitary in town!
