FRANK, ON ‘WHY I BACK SHAC’

Hi. I’m 58. I have been doing animal rights work since 1975 with some of those years ploughing away as an individual. In those days most animal rights people went on the national marches, wrote letters to the government (who were and indeed are unsympathetic
to requests for the abolition of the abuse of animals), did town centre stalls, all that sort of thing. However, I always hoped that the day would arrive when I could be part of a very powerful animal rights force.

That day finally arrived a few years ago on a dreary winter’s day as a result of my scanning TV Teletext . A considerable length of text publicised SHAC’s campaign against the notorious HLS. I knew then that the day had finally arrived for me to become a staunch SHAC ally. From that day henceforth I’ve received SHAC’s newsletters, gone on as many protest marches as possible, done my utmost financially to help SHAC and have been as active as possible, meeting many nice fellow SHAC folk as a bonus.

I’ve learned much from SHAC’s newsletters, from their speakers’ powerful speeches and from fellow SHAC comrades. I shall never, never abandon my alliance to SHAC and the wonderful cause many of us so resolutely adhere to. I am clearly no hero, but I do know that I do not have any right whatever to partake of any item that has evolved as a result of animals having been tortured. I would much rather die!

I’m in awe of such brave people as Barry Horne. To be honest, I feel I’ve let him down and that I’ve let other courageous animal rights people down. The animal abusers are not, however, going to be free of my opposing them until I die. I class anyone who has a hand in animal abuse as being as guilty as the vivisector who actually handles the animals.

Those who do nothing constructive to try and get animal abuse abolished, well, they are also guilty! I beg of you all to keep up this fight of ours and intensify it. Never weaken! Never be afraid! Always remember that “right” is“might”.We are right. That old axiom “fortune favours the brave” is on our side, so let us go forward together. God bless every one of you and your loved ones and thanks for honouring me by reading this.
