In the past few years HLS have been infiltrated and exposed time and time again by journalists, animal rights campaigners and members of the public. Also a number of companies that breed lab animals for HLS have been exposed as well as their clients.
Every single time vicious animal cruelty, fraud, incompetence and rule breaking has been exposed on a large scale. HLS workers have been caught on camera punching animals in the face and falsifying test data, they have been caught dealing illegal substances on company premises and workers have been drunk at work and killing animals due to neglect.
An ADI investigator worked for a year inside HLS' primate unit, whilst two others exposed the international primate trade in South America and Asia, where they filmed horrific scenes of primates being snatched from the wild for the labs of Huntingdon Life Sciences.
2005Two ex-HLS workers were so horrified by their experience at the lab, that they have spoken out about animal cruelty, falsified data and filthy conditions. In the same year HLS allowed a TV crew inside their lab to film beagle puppies undergoing inhalation experiments.
HLS continue to claim all of this has changed in recent years. However, this expose into HLS - two ex workers who were operating in the beagle unit inside this hell hole - have demonstrated that things are still the same, with animals being roughly treated, sloppy science and manipulated data.
2004SHAC were leaked top secret experiments that had taken place inside HLS. Beagles and rodents were used in inhalation experiments to test dangerous CFC's which had already been banned 15 years ago.
2000 - 2003The largest ever leak of documents from a vivisection laboratory was shown to the Daily Express and published. Soon after an injunction was obtained to prevent the public knowing any more about controversial experiments being carried out on wild caught baboons. In 2003 the injunction was overturned after a two and a half year court battle, and now you can read for yourself was HLS so desperately tried to hide.
2000SHAC received documents from inside HLS's Suffolk Laboratory revealing drug taking, drunk workers carrying out experiments, as well as a baboon escaping from HLS's Huntingdon site and running across the A1.
1997Michelle Rokke from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) released video footage shot undercover inside HLS's lab in the USA. Amongst a catalogue of cruelty, she filmed workers performing a necropsy (an animal equivalent of an autopsy) on a primate while it was still alive.
1997Zoe Broughton worked undercover inside HLS as part of a Channel Four series, Countryside Undercover. Her investigation showed workers punching beagle puppies in the face and Home Office Inspectors failing to do their job.
1989Sarah Kite from the BUAV was first to expose HLS for animal cruelty after an eight month investigation. She worked in the rodent toxicology unit and the beagle unit and witnessed beagles being poisoned with pesticides, dental hygiene products, drugs and food wrapping film.
