BARCLAYS DEMO IN SHEFFIELD

Saturday, 18th April

On a sunny Saturday in Sheffield the new swanky Barclays branch (paid for by Barclays' tax aviation scams, no doubt!) in the city centre got a timely visit from a group of activists, who were determined to inform the public about Barclays despicable dealings with HLS.

The eight human and one canine protesters were in fine voice through out the day, many people were shocked and appalled at Barclays support of HLS after they'd been informed of the facts by the demonstrators. The posters showing the shocking reality of just what animals endure inside the torture labs of Huntingdon Life Sciences, the numerous informative leaflets given out and a banner which said 'Barclays fund animal cruelty!' all combined to leave no one in the area that day in any doubt about just why the protesters were there. Nor could the employees of the bank, who periodically scuttled out to go on their breaks, feign ignorance any longer about the unethical dealings of their employers, after the vocal protest gave them an earful of the truth whenever they were in the vicinity.

The public were most interested to find out about Barclays nefarious activities, with many expressing support for the protesters efforts and at least a couple of people going in and closing their accounts there and then! Others were convinced to open bank accounts else where after being confronted with the truth. A weak effort by an employee of Barclays was made to try to make the protesters move on, they were asked if they wouldn't mind going round the corner some what, so as not to be too close to the entrance.

What? And perhaps be less visible to the public?....We think not madam! You'll have to try harder than that to dissuade people from continuing to spread the truth about Barclays dodgy dealings. Later there was the arrival of a local copper who chatted cordially with protesters as he knew there was little he could really do to move them on. This didn't stop the officer from popping up again a little later with a video camera and filming the demo, cooee! Smile for the 'nice' man in the silly uniform! Needless to say the demonstrators were entirely non-plussed by this feeble attempt at intimidating lawful protesters. The demonstrators hoped he got all the footage he desired, as the plod should soon get used to the faces of those present as they'll be a common sight outside Barclays in Sheffield for as long as is necessary.

Until next time!
