home >> news BARCLAYS DEMO & BANNER PROTEST IN CARLISLE Saturday, 18th April We decided on doing a demo outside Barclays in the town, with a banner, placards and giving out flyers to passers by, who where interested and disgusted to hear that Barclays help fund animal torture in side HLS. We were approached by the police three times within 30 minutes and on the third visit they decided and asked us to remove our banner or we would be arrested on Sec5. We then had a long 'discussion' with the police about the use of the 'law'. The police continued to threaten as to take down the banner and in the end we took it down, just because we wanted to continue with our peaceful protest. We will be seeking legal advice about the use of Sec5, and went to the local police station a couple of days later to make an informal complaint. Had a chat, the police said that they had over reacted in asking us for our details (which we refused to give anyway) as we had done absolutely nothing wrong, as its our right to have peaceful protest (allegedly). They said a complaint had been made about the banner by a member of staff (probably too visual for Barclays - not getting embarrassed with your dealings with HLS are you?). We will be back outside Barclays soon, we had good feedback from the public. In fact, people came up and joined the demo!
