BACK TO BAKER'S & FINALE OF HLS TOP CUSTOMER WEEK OF ACTION IN NYC

Sunday, 30th August

Win Animal Rights concluded a week of action focusing on the key customers of Huntingdon Life Sciences by visiting the home of Huntingdon Life Sciences CEO and Chairman, Andrew Baker and Baker’s neighbor, Bristol-Myers Squibb executive Jeremy Levin.

Demo #1: Andrew Baker - Chairman & CEO – Huntingdon Life Sciences

A fitting conclusion to this week of action in Solidarity with the Global SHAC campaign started at the home of HLS Chief Executive and Chairman of the Board, Andrew Baker. Baker is behind the recently announced M.B.O. and a desperate attempt to keep his failing company afloat. Activists reminded Mr. Baker that they would only be there a short time, as they believe their time and effort is better spent influencing the misguided customers of his sinking company.

The protest started with under a dozen activists, but by the time it was in full swing their number had grown to twice as many, as neighbors and dog walkers joined in. One group went so far as to scale the wall surrounding Central Park to join the loud and spirited protest. The beautiful weather allowed cheerful neighbors to stop and chat with activists who were happy to explain why they were there.

The serenity and peace of the afternoon was only marred by a wacky neighbor, who decided to taunt the activists by taking their pictures while calling them offensive names. An activist with a camera gave her a taste of her own medicine and she fairly ran across the street to avoid having her picture taken. Someone must have told her about the WAR picture gallery.

Neighbors were reminded that the protests which have been going on for over 5 years now, will continue until Andrew Baker cuts his many ties to Huntingdon Life Sciences or until HLS goes out of business. Andrew Baker, you are mean spirited and lack any compassion, still we appeal to any last vestige of morality that might be buried deep in your soul (if you have one). Stop torturing and killing 500 hundred animals a day. We don’t want to keep spending our lovely Sunday afternoons this way; but, WE WILL.

Demo #2: Jeremy Levin - Executive - Bristol-Myers Squibb

Since Jeremy Levin showed up at the WAR protest held at Bristol-Myers Headquarters on Park Avenue and wished everyone luck with the campaign, WAR activists have been chomping at the bit to return to Levin’s residence on Riverside Drive. This location is never boring. Whether it be loud Christmas music blasted out of open windows or wet objects catapulted out of high windows in the building or residents assaulting protesters and then calling the police when they are clearly the guilty party.

This protest was no different than in the past. No sooner had the protest started with compassionate neighbors passing by and commending the activists for their efforts, then the first crazy lady came tearing down the block screaming that the protest was disturbing her doggy. This might have been a cogent argument except for the fact that the woman did not live in Jeremy Levin’s building but half a city block away. Hard to imagine how the protest could disturb her dog.

After assaulting a protester and then trying to rip the camera out of his hands, she had a moment of clarity and realized how crazy she was being. This however, did not stop her from calling the police. When a squad car arrived from the local precinct, the two officers quickly assessed the situation and kept herding the woman back as she insisted on arguing with the protesters even as the police told her to back off. It was explained to her that this was a peaceful, legal protest and that the best thing she could do is go back home.

Protesters cheered the police as they defended protestors rights to speak out and they stayed until the end of the protest which stopped the larger projectiles from being launched out of the windows of the higher apartments. One activist was hit by a large wad of wet paper towels. After police arrived, the loony tune decided to spit out of the window. Luckily no one was injured, which is a good thing as the protest included not only children and dogs; but also an infant with her mother, who could have easily been hurt. Next time, videographers will be filming the windows so that proof of the attack can be provided to the local police and assault charges can be filed. Come out, come out, Dr. Levin…..we are tired of dealing with your mentally disturbed neighbors!
