home >> news BARCLAYS PROTEST IN CAMBRIDGE Thursday, 29th Janaury Key shareholder continues to be named and shamed Today a leafleting demo was held outside the Cambridge city centre branch of Barclays. Leaflets were handed out and interested parties told about how HLS is the most exposed animal testing lab in the world and tests things such as sweeteners, agricultural chemicals, GMOs and household products on animals. They were also informed how others now shun HLS but Barclays continues to deal with these corporate criminals. A nice enough lady from Barclays came out and asked what the protest was about and if it was a specific issue with the branch. She was informed of why the protesters were there and she said she knew about HLS. She told the campaigners to move away from the branch and suggested they stand over by the council offices, the campaigners very politely declined. A few minutes before the planned end of the demo a 4x4 with a police officer arrived on the scene, after speaking with activists, he went into the bank to find out if they had had any problems with the protest. They apparently told him that some customers found our quiet poster holding and leaflet distributing ‘intimidating’. A Section 14 was imposed moving activists a little way from the door. This put them bang in the middle of the path, this was OK for the few minutes they had left allowing them to reach out to the wider public, even if it was a clear abuse of the law. The demo was a success and with Barclays being a key target, you can bet activists will be back very shortly!
