home >> news DAY OF PROTESTS AT HLS CUSTOMERS IN USA Friday, 2nd Janaury DC activists carry on the fight. On Friday, Jan 2, animal rights activists showed up at the offices of HLS customers Novartis, GSK, and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) kills and tortures 500 animals a day to test things like bleach, food colourings and sweeteners, real life-saving 'research'! In the case of Glaxo-Smith Kline (48% of HLS's business), some of the drugs proven "safe" by animal tests have gone on to kill people, including a dozen babies in Argentina. Hundreds more have been made ill by GSK products. If they were tested at HLS (where test results are sometimes just penciled into meet desired results) this is not suprising. Activists seeking to protest at these companies and others too are trying to persuade them to stop doing business with HLS have met a blizzard of police repression lately, among many other things nearly leading to the death of a WSQT reporter tacked on Dec 19th. 5 feet short of a 35 foot cliff drop during a chase! That happened after a peaceful protest was ambushed by police. Despite the police repression and wrongful arrests, activists are continuing to protest againstHLS! We're not going away... Until all are free. Cops followed protesters around but this time made no attempt to arrest or assault anyone (no bruises or handcuff marks this time around, which is nothing to what the animals go through). After the protests finished, activists walked around downtown in a circle to tie up the cops, who simply kept following everyone until they figured out the protests were over.
