DAY OF NOVARTIS DEMOS IN NYC

Saturday, 27th June

Home demos at key executives of Huntingdon Life Sciences' customer Novartis

In Solidarity with Protesters in Iran

Demo #1: Robert Pelzer - CEO, Novartis

Between 15 and 20 activists lined up across the street from Robert Pelzer’s multimillion dollar residence, aghast with Novartis’ continued support of the puppy killers of Huntingdon Life Sciences and Pelzer’s direct contributions to the murder and torture that goes on inside HLS every day of the week.

Signs and banners showing the reality of vivisection at HLS were distributed and loud chants bellowed out from the activists, calling attention to Pelzer’s dirty dealings in animal cruelty and human death, causing angry neighbors to storm out and question what the ruckus was about.

Taking the misguided and disgustingly entitled opinion that they had the right to live in New York City but have it be nice and quiet just for them, they called the police who were less than impressed with the neighbors’ claims that protesters were disturbing the peace. Hey Pelzer’s neighbors: the NYPD already knew we were there, so stop wasting their time and stop harassing activists! Take it up with Pelzer instead!

Demo #2: John Minardo, General Counsel, Novartis

After activists had had their fill naming and shaming Robert Pelzer, they hopped on a train and went over to the home of John Minardo, another executive who lines his pockets with the company blood money at Novartis.

Activists called him out at the top of their lungs, filling the street with chants of “500 animals died today – John Minardo is to blame!” and “Your contracts – Your fault!”. Not even a sudden and violent rainstorm could deter the activists, who merely moved underneath a tiny awning to somewhat avoid the downpour while continuing to call out John Minardo for what he is: A man who profits off the suffering of animals. Luckily, laminated signs make for decent protection from rain, and the demo went on.

Once again police were called by those who think New York City should be quiet just for them, and once again police looked bored and unimpressed, and once presented with the facts that WAR activists are peaceful and abiding by all laws, they moved on in search of real crimes.

Demo #3: Wayne Merkelson, General Counsel, Novartis

Over to Union Square the activists went, to pay a visit to their old friend Wayne Merkelson. A favorite stop for activists, his building provides excellent acoustics for a VERY LOUD demonstration. The rain left some activists soaked, but still determined to raise their voices and bring attention to the suffering of the animals inside of Huntingdon Life Sciences.

Signs were again distributed and displayed, along with a banner reading “Free All Political Prisoners”, then the chants started up and roared on: “Wayne Merkelson – you must, you must, you must understand… THE BLOOD, THE BLOOD, THE BLOOD IS ON YOUR HANDS!”.

Some of activists’ favorite neighbors came out for a visit, with “helpful” (ludicrous) suggestions on how to more effectively protest. Thanks, Merkelson’s neighbors, but activists don’t have a suggestion box and don’t take kindly to meddling. But thanks for letting everyone know that the chants can be heard, but not understood, on the tenth floor. They’ll be sure to make an effort to be louder and clearer next visit.

WAR would like to express their gratitude to all the new faces that showed up to this week’s demonstrations. From the New York residents who came out for their first time, to the visiting Russian activists that couldn’t let even a vacation week go by without speaking up for animals: Thank You!! W.A.R. hopes to see you next time!
