home >> news DC ACTIVISTS CONTINUE TO PROTEST AT HLS COLLABORATORS Monday, 16th March On March 16th, 2009, around 7:30 am, DARTT (Defending Animal Rights Today & Tomorrow) activists launched an early morning meet & greet campaign to name and shame Vanguard Group and their complicit employees because Vanguard Group has bought 280,662 shares in Huntingdon Life Sciences (ticker symbol LSR). This was the kick-off demo for DC Vanguard Group protests at 975 F St NW, and a warning to Vanguard that this foolhardy investment in the vile business that is HLS will not go unchallenged. DARTT unveiled its new video set-up at Vanguard's office, broadcasting undercover footage of numerous investigations that have taken place inside HLS. The video footage, coupled with very loud chanting and graphic signs and banners, vibrantly illustrated for Vanguard employees and their office mates what horrors Vanguard perpetuates through investing in Huntingdon Life Sciences. One police officer arrived on the scene after a time, attempting to intimidate activists and interfere with the protest by claiming that bullhorns couldn't be used in a business zone during morning weekday hours (the officer couldn't cite any pertinent city ordinance, and the justification for this order was pretty flimsy; were people in the area trying to sleep and inconvenienced by the racket?). DARTT activists refrained from using the bullhorns until the police cruiser receded into the distance, then unleashed amplified fury and belted out with chants even louder than before. The fun continued at the Bristol Myers-Squibb office with a quick 15-minute demo, uninterrupted by police interference. Vanguard, the message is simple: you need to completely divest from HLS (LSR) or you will be getting visits from us week after week. We'll be there when you arrive to work in the morning, when you leave the office, and while you retreat into your home. There will be no respite for animal murderers or those who fund them, and that's a promise you can take to the bank!
