BIRMINGHAM BARCLAYS PROTEST ON MAY DAY

Friday, 1st May

We held yet another demonstration against Barclays in Birmingham City Centre today for their blood money shares into the vile Huntingdon Life Sciences. The company that claims to conduct "life saving research" by torturing and murdering hundreds of animals, and knows that deep down vivisection is nothing more than scientific fraud, testing any substance on any animal for anyone prepared to fund their sick and twisted ways.

Greeted once again by lots of public support, people took many leaflets, said they would boycott Barclays and commented on how this bank is unethical in other ways as well, they showed their disgust at Barclays for investing in the disgraceful HLS and encouraged us in our regular demonstrations against the bank.

Barclays, clearly becoming stressed at our ever-increasing public support and the consistency of our regular demos against them, now rush almost straight away to contact the police about our LAWFUL presences when we turn up.

Community Support Officers jumped to the scene, firstly telling us we were violating section 5 (the one that seems to be intended to allow officers to harass, alarm or distress protesters!), and then decided to comment on noise levels, but when questioned how we were violating section 5, and asked if there was a noise limit in place, what it was, and if we were exceeding it, they failed to answer. Once again they were sent "on their bikes", only to make a phone call to the "REAL" police - who came, did nothing, and left! Barclays must be over-joyed about that.

Many officers in "the force" appear to forget that the police SERVICE is intended to be a SERVICE, this does not mean trying to overpower lawful citizens, this does not mean trying to infiltrate and disrupt lawful actions such as protests, this does not mean making up the law as they go along, contrary to how some of them have been acting.

See you next time Barclays, until you sell your blood-money shares in Huntingdon Life Sciences. Get some ethics and stop trying to make money from puppies being punched in the face. Drop HLS!
