HLS FORFEITS LAST DAY OF AAPS CONFERENCE

Wednesday, 11th November

After 15 hours of demonstrations against Huntingdon Life Sciences at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Convention in the Los Angeles Convention Center, HLS was forced to pack up a day early. More than 60 activists were outside the Convention Center over a 3-day span continuing to name and shame HLS to attendees and company reps. Out of embarrassment and guilt, HLS left AAPS early on Wednesday losing a day of business with potential customers. A company representative from Pfeiffer (not to be confused with Pfizer) told activists that "No one ever leaves early at these conventions" because it is just "bad business". The representative stated that companies pay $4,000 per booth space, and it is foolish not to stay until the very last hour since each company loses money and business from an early departure.

Huntingdon spent their whole visit in Los Angeles defending themselves against angry attendees (from the activists' presence) instead of doing business with companies, which was very unfavorable for them and extremely favorable for the animals. Many people came out from inside the convention all week to further investigate the commotion and noise we were creating outside. Activists were able to inform hundreds of guests and participants about HLS' animal abusing reputation. In addition, most people entering and exiting the convention had no choice but to walk through the crowds of activists. They quite literally had to "deal with us".

Several representatives and attendees commented to activists about the shabby and "poorly decorated" booth HLS occupied, noting that all HLS could afford was a few lousy fliers, and could have sworn a shoddy change cup was placed on the table begging "alms for the poor". This was the laughingstock for activists and was fully exploited to our advantage - HLS is clearly losing.

One activist confronted a representative from HLS who tried to sneak out of the side doors. The representative hid their name tag from activists and denied their affiliation, trying hard not be exposed. He began insulting activists and calling them "terrorists" and "tormenters" while scoffing at images from inside HLS labs that activists held. We found this to be a perfect opportunity to point out the HLS employee, resulting in lots of hostility towards his general direction.

The automatic sliding doors and extremely low number of security guards at the entrance was convenient for activists who were able to casually slip by guards into the conference with their signs and voices. Activists being present inside the building created a feeling of vulnerability when attendees realized how easy it was for us to
penetrate the building.

The AAPS Opening Dinner Reception was disrupted by activists with an
organized action to force the attendees and participants to look at the brutalities happening to animals everyday. After 5 straight hours of demoing, we retreated and planned such an action. At 6:45pm sharp,
activists stormed the front doors creating a tumultuous situation that people could not ignore. People dishing up their dinners were shocked and troubled by the images of murdered puppies, fervent shouting and loud megaphone sirens - causing great discomfort to their appetites.

Our presence and persistence served as a "black mark" against the AAPS convention and forced promoters to think twice about dealing with HLS ever again. Everyone who attended the conference held a great deal of contempt against HLS and continued to scold them for causing so much pain and suffering to puppies, kittens and monkeys; also for ruining the whole week of their conference. It cannot be stressed enough that activists forced the early departure of Huntingdon Life Sciences and once again, have caused HLS to directly lose more business and more money.

It is time for you to throw in the towel once and for all, HLS because we always win.
