FIRST ASTRAZENECA HOME DEMO IN NYC

Saturday, 28th November

WAR Stands in Solidarity with SHAC for Global AstraZeneca Week of Action

AstraZeneca is one of the few major drug companies that does not have an office presence in New York City. After some digging and deep research WAR activists have found a handful of AstraZeneca employees that work out of Manhattan locations. Here is the first of what we are sure will be a series of home demo reports.

Home Demo: Sharon Benzeno
Senior Regional Scientific Manager – AstraZeneca

After doing anti-fur demos, the weary group of protestors from Win Animal Rights decided to end the long day and night of action in style, by visiting the home of Sharon Benzeno, a Manager of Huntingdon Life Sciences customer, AstraZeneca. In solidarity with SHAC, activists raised their signs and their voices and woke up the neighborhood.

Sharon’s neighbors came out of both her building and adjacent buildings to find out who was being named and shamed on the sidewalk. Many when they heard that it was a drug company manager, rolled their eyes and showed their disgust of all drug companies. One person called NY1 in an attempt to get the activists media coverage.

Even though it was quite dark, neighbors stopped to read the posters and to grimace at the horrific pictures of animal cruelty. They asked for literature and stood reading by the street lamp light and then asked what they could do to help the campaign. One neighbor was so moved in support of the activists that she brought out cups of coffee for each of them. It is rare but not entirely unheard of to get this kind of response from someone on the street; but it does happen.

This Upper East Side neighborhood is very supportive of animal advocacy and activists declared that they would be back and that they would keep coming back until AstraZeneca cuts its bloody ties to Huntingdon Life Sciences. Sharon Benzeno, please ask your company to do the right thing. Nobody likes puppy killers!
