A dozen activists spent their Columbus Day (federal holiday in the USA) delivering a loud message to Sanofi and their neighbors. Many of the building residents showed their support and many stopped to chat with activists or to take a flyer about the relationship between Huntingdon Life Sciences and Sanofi Aventis. Their office location, which is just a short way from New York City’s Grand Central Station, is well situated for maximum exposure and pedestrian traffic. A high point of the day was a big thumbs up and support from a well known TV star from Law and Order. Demo #2: Novartis, 608 Fifth Avenue, NYC Next stop was the Investor relations Office of Novartis. This is the office that Novartis President Robert Pelzer works at. Once again, graphic signs of the mutilated remains of beagle puppies, cats, rabbits and monkeys were held high for all to see. Many grimaced as they viewed the handiwork of Huntingdon Life Sciences and many wanted to know what more they could do to help stop the suffering and cruelty. Activists took the time to explain that although HLS was doing the killing, Novartis was signing the contracts and paying the bills. The blood is on your hands, Novartis! This office is located at Fifth Avenue and 49th Street just a way from busy Rockefeller Center. Although this location is normally well traveled, the sidewalks were particularly crowded because the Columbus Day Parade had just concluded. Police officers stopped by to say hello since they had received a 9-1-1 call about the peaceful legal protest. After saying hello and finding out how long activists intended to stay, they moved on. Demo #3: Bristol-Myers Squibb, 345 Park Avenue, NYC The final location of the afternoon was the World Corporate Headquarters of Huntingdon Life Sciences’ customer Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS). In the past security guards have always gotten crazy when protests began at that location. They have, in the past, claimed that they own the sidewalk all the way to the curb. Apparently, they have finally admitted to themselves that they do not own the sidewalk and that peaceful legal protests will continue despite their whining and bitching. Loud voices joined in unison were raised…”500 animals died today….Bristol-Myers is to blame”. One could have heard the loud impassioned activists all the way to Grand Central Station. This protest took place close to 5:00 pm. No doubt some of those passing worked for Bristol-Myers and witnessed the demonstration at their front door as they left their offices for the day. Hundreds of flyers, featuring a full color head shot of CEO & Chairman James Cornelius, were distributed to building residents and passersby.
