ITALIAN NATIONAL PROTEST AGAINST GREEN HILL/MARSHALL FARMS

Saturday, 24th April

World Day for Animals in Laboratories was celebrated in Italy with one of the most massive antivivisection demos ever seen in Italy.

Crowds of over 2,000 people arrived in Montichiari to protest against the expansion project and the business of Green Hill/Marshall Farm (some local newspapers speak about 3,000 protesters!).

The news of this project shocked the whole animal rights and animal welfare movement, and has been used as a good tool to talk a lot about vivisection in Italy and open so many new eyes to animal abuse. Many simple animal lovers or dog lovers moved their ass for the first time in their life for a demo, and met antispeciesist info-stalls, panels on all kinds of animal abuse, vegan food, speeches on animal liberation and against speciesism...

It was a great day, with a good and lively atmosphere and a lot of new faces that were really interested in doing something. The people of Montichiari have been generally supportive, with a lot of locals joining the demo and leaving their contacts for future campaigning in town.

Green Hill supply HLS and Sequani in the UK and here is a list showing other vivisection companies they supply across Europe: http://www.fermaregreenhill.net/wp/?page_id=21

A few days before the march we had confirmation from the city council and Mayor of Montichiari that the project has been formally rejected! So the campaign keeps an eye on the project but also moves to the next step: strategies to close this place down for good!
