home >> news THE SEIGE OF FORTRESS CONTINUES IN DC Tuesday, 24th August Protesters showed up at the DC offices of Goldman-Sachs, and found everyone outside and the fire alarm ringing as they approached! This comes just three days after a Goldman-Sachs attorney received a protest at his home, again over Goldman-Sach's major ownership stake in Fortress, which has been called "the life support system of HLS." Goldman Sachs has been issued an official letter asking for a polite meeting and Goldman Sachs has refused. After several phone calls and emails, protests were kicked off at the homes of key executives in DC. This fire alarm, got the entire building of 101 Constitution Ave to be outside while the demo against Goldman Sachs commenced. Activists vowed to never back down, as Goldman Sachs (a top shareholder of Fortress) has the power to tell Fortress to call in their loans of over 100 million dollars. After the Goldman-Sach's protest which lasted about 45 minutes, protesters showed up at the offices of Nomura, a corporation which owns 30% of Fortress and shares board of directors. An absent receptionist allowed protesters to penetrate all the way to the office at Nomura, where an impromtu meeting occurred with Nomura Employees. During this meeting, when the activists said they wanted to speak with them about their ties with Fortress and HLS, the Nomura employee's eyes got very large and said they can't do anything and they would not take any materials from activists. After getting names of employees and passing out fliers around the Nomura office, activists left and moved on to the next on the list! Finally, Bayer and AstraZeneca, two notorious HLS customers, received their usual morning office demos. HLS or Huntingdon Life Sciences was facing imminent bankruptcy until Fortress made $100M plus in loans to them. HLS is a puppy-killing contract animal research lab where undercover investigators have caught "researchers" punching beagle puppies in the face and cutting up live monkeys with no painkillers. Most corporations won't touch HLS anymore because of the protests, but Fortress give them big bucks when most banks won't even give them a checking account.
