PROTESTS CONTINUE AT FRENCH CUSTOMERS OF HLS

Tuesday, 14th December

CAV France visited Schering-Plough and Sanofi-Aventis. Both labs are customers of the worst European toxicology centre: Huntingdon Life Sciences. HLS is constantly undermined by undercover investigations, activists and members of the public. Each time, we discover acts of cruelty and sadism to animals as well as fraud, breach of protocols and incompetent employees. It is appalling that this laboratory can still find customers despite its misconduct and falsification of results. Actually, pharmaceutical companies must be quite happy to have found a toxicology centre that can provide such accommodating results.

Several videos, filmed by hidden cameras, show employees hitting puppies or humiliating primates. It is high time that Schering-Plough and Sanofi-Aventis break their ties with HLS and stop testing their drugs on animals! No specie is a biological model to another. To find drugs to treat human diseases, we must use human data.

Even the American Food and Drug Administration acknowledges that:

- Side effects of medications are among the leading causes of death in developed countries, after cancer, stroke and heart disease!
- 92% of drugs pretested successfully on animals are discarded during clinical trials on humans ( because of side effects or ineffectiveness).
- Of the 8% who remain and are put on the market, more than half are withdrawn from the market due to side effects or relabelling.
- Humans that participate in clinical trials and the public are the first real guinea pigs! http://cav.asso.fr/en/victims/humans/clinical-trials.html
