SECOND DAY OF ACTION AGAINST FORTRESS IN PORTLAND

Thursday, 23rd September

Today an independent group of compassionate Portland activists descended upon two more targets of the campaign to shut down Huntingdon Life Sciences. The day started in Vancouver, WA at the offices of CW Financial Services, a wholly owned subsidiary company of Fortress Investment Group since early September.

When everyone arrived, a group of concerned activists walked up to CW’s second floor offices in hopes of speaking with a manager about their relationship with Fortress and HLS, but office employees responded by locking their front door. Seems as though they already knew why we were there. Undeterred by their response, the activists decided to start the demo in their hallway then march out to the rest of the group who were already chanting, “500 ANIMALS DIED TODAY, CW IS TO BLAME!” As the demo continued, concerned neighbors from local businesses poured into the street to see what all the commotion was about. When we told them the truth about CW and Fortress, they were appalled and said they would be sure to call Fortress’s and CW’s offices in disgust.

Upon leaving, the activists decided to regroup in the parking lot of a local Staples store. Everyone took an isle and made sure to leave informational pamphlets in every crevice they could find.

Next up, the group turned their attention to AG Financial Services in Tigard, another new subsidiary of Fortress. Upon arrival, a few people decided to walk in to the office to speak with the manager about their ties to HLS. This time the activists lucked out and were able to speak to the person in charge of the office. When the man was asked about AG’s ties to Fortress and HLS, he insisted on giving the activists the number of Barry Roberts who was handling the ‘Fortress Protestors.” At that moment the manager walked to his secretary who handed him a memo with a number highlighted on it. They took the number, walked out the door and another demo ensued. After today, every location of AG Financial Services in Portland Metro has been demoed and the pressure on Fortress has been increased.

To all AR activists in the USA who have been living through the 'Green Scare', the time of living in fear is over. With the recent dismissal of the AETA 4 case, people are now realizing that our First Amendment rights have still not been compromised. So get out there and fight for the animals inside HLS and together let’s shut down this hellhole for good.
