DAY OF ACTION & MARCH AGAINST MARSHALL GREEN HILL BEAGLE BREEDER

Saturday, 25th September

Green Hill currently imprison 2,500 beagles in Northern Italy and ship them to all around Europe, mainly to companies such as Novartis, Wyeth, Bayer and Italian laboratories, plus not to mention the notorious HLS in the UK. The campaign has already had some big marches and a demo at the suppliers site, as well as halting the planned expansion project to double the size of the breeders. Campaigners have also managed to stop all shipments from the nearby airport, from where the beagle puppies were shipped to UK and France (all the other shipments are made with the company’s van), and had the only Italian manager resigning from her job.

The past week there was a day of action against this beagle breeder with demos at Italian embassies across Europe, Canada and 6 demos in the UK to highlight the campaign to close them down, as well as protests in Italy with banner drops highlighting Green Hill and the march in Rome at the weekend.

This culminated on Saturday, 25th September with a huge march in Rome of an estimated 10,000 people who listened to speakers on abolitionism, antispeciesism connected to racism, grassroots activism, campaigning with no political flag or big organization needed, veganism, direct action and supporting prisoners and the campaign to close Green Hill. Making it the biggest animal rights/anti-vivisection march in Italy, maybe in mainland Europe?

Marchers arriving at the end of the march at the square in Rome was a great emotion, with thousands and thousands of people behind, without being able to see the end of the march... it took almost 30 minutes for all the people to be there... incredible!

Also, on the same day many groups in Italy not connected to the march in Rome organised many more small demos against vivisection in Torino, Milano, Trento, Catania, Cagliari and Firenze... all of them together gathered a couple thousand more people speaking up against vivisection.

There is so much to be told on this demo/march. We have more plans and will use this new strength to spread action against vivisection all over Italy. There will be a national (maybe international?) week of action against vivisection and against Green Hill from November 1st to 7th. We expect a lot of demos to take place all over the country.
