CANADIAN LABOUR DAY DEMOS

Friday, 3rd September

What better way to start the Canadian Labour Day holiday weekend than with four demos at three top HLS customers / SHAC targets. We came prepared with megaphones, placards, art and poster sized pictures of the tortured monkeys from the recent expose of HLS supplier Primate Products.

Demo 1 - Was a return visit to the Canadian headquarters of Novartis in Dorval. We stayed an hour chanting non-stop with four megaphones; we could see the employees looking from the windows.

Demo 2 – Our next target was the new Canadian headquarters of Bristol-Myers Squibb in Montreal’s R&D techno park. We arrived just on time, as employees were enjoying their lunch outside. Unable or unwilling to listen to the information about the sick experiments on animals paid for by their employer they promptly packed up and ran inside. We continued with a loud demo outside BMS.

Demo 3 – Our third demo was at the multimillion dollar state of the art AstraZeneca Pain Research Centre. It was recently reported that AstraZeneca has partnered with McGill University and notorious vivisector Jeffrey Mogil and invested 2.5 million dollars to “encourage leading-edge pain science”. Some of the money was used to build 10 000 square feet of research space including “multi-user animal-behaviour testing facilities”.

Jeffrey “Dahmer” Mogil recently made headlines with his sick experiments where he tortured mice to develop a “grimace scale”. Jeffrey videotaped facial expressions of mice during pain inducing procedures such as immersing tails in hot water, putting binder clips on the tails, slicing the paws, injecting chemicals into the paws or stomach and constricting or damaging nerves during surgery, and in most instances the severe pain continued unrelieved for hours or days. This psychopath is currently performing the same experiments on rats! Shame on AstraZeneca!

Bonus Demo 4 - Since the 70,000 animals inside HLS will never enjoy fresh air or leave the horrible lab alive, we thought it was terribly unfair that the sickos directly responsible for their suffering where able to leave work at the office and enjoy the weekend. We decided a home demo was in order at the residence of Wayne Quigley, President and General Manager of Bristol -Myers Squibb Canada. He lives in one of the richest areas of Montreal in a gigantic house whose backyard extends onto the prestigious Royal Montreal Golf Club the oldest golf club in North America. As we arrived we surprised the private security keeping watch in a black SUV. We believe that BMS (possibly Novartis and AstraZeneca too) hired private security guards for all executives homes since a home demo was announced but location was held top secret. To add to the visual which helped spread our message the security guards called the police and four police cars showed up lights flashing. Of course they had no problem with our legal demo to the chagrin of the private BMS security. We held a great high energy loud demo on his street and the whole neighbourhood learned of Wayne Quigley’s unethical relationship with HLS. The amount of support received from his community and even his neighbours was incredible some promising to join us at the next one, which will be soon enough.

BMS, Novartis and AstraZeneca do the right thing and cut all ties with HLS.
