Monday, 1st August

Activists held a demo today at the UK Head Office of Air France/KLM in Hatton Cross. This large office complex close to Heathrow airport which is the hub of AF/KLM's UK operations, and most of the company's employees are based here.

Before the demo was due to start, two protesters decided to visit the offices first and inform the staff there about the company's involvement with supplying animals to be tortured in vivisection labs. When the staff were handed the leaflets and told about the campaign, they were not happy to be confronted with the truth about what kind of company they work for, and the two activists were asked to leave.

As they were being escorted from the premises, the main body of protesters were just arriving, and with many placards and a big banner, and 5 megaphones, the message was now loud and clear that AF/KLM must end its involvement in the vivisection industry.

This being close to Heathrow, there was soon a heavy police presence, but they didn't interfere with the protest, and were happy to watch us from a short distance away.

With speeches and chanting over the next few hours, we made sure all the staff in the offices were now fully aware of the campaign and why we were there. Even with planes landing and taking off every few minutes, we were making enough noise to be heard loudly and clearly all around the building.

As staff were leaving and arriving they were also given informative but graphic leaflets about the campaign. We also did door to door leafleting of nearby houses, and as a result some of the residents who were upset by the leaflets came out and offered their support for the demo, some of them bringing their dogs with them.

For many in the building, this was the first time they had been informed about their company's involvement with supplying animals for experiments, and we hope they will now put pressure on their directors to rethink their policy and cut their links with the bloody vivisection industry.

Some activists headed for Heathrow airport today as well to make a surprise visit to Air France/KLM and take a message straight to their customers about the horrific industry they support. While customers were queuing to check in for their flights, activists walked into the departures area armed with posters and leaflets to make an alternative flight announcement, telling AF-KLM’s customers about the barbaric industry the company is involved in.

Many leaflets were given out as people were horrified to learn the truth about exactly who is travelling on Air France’s flights – thousands of terrified individuals who have been reduced to slaves for the vivisection industry, to be exploited in the name of ‘science’, who will be tortured and killed so that businesses can produce more ‘new formula!’ products and obtain cheap insurance for their next round of toxic pharmaceuticals – real science would cost the greedy executives too much money, so instead they continue to trade in the lives of the weak, deeming the lives of these unlucky animals to be worthless, a mere commodity to be cashed in on – blood money to boost the profits of a sickening, morally corrupt industry.
But whiles AF-KLM continue to provide one of the most vital lifelines (as ironic as the term is) to this sickening industry by transporting it’s victims around the world, compassionate people will continue to oppose this and spread the truth about Air France selling lives for money.

The demo lasted for over 10 minutes, with everyone in the departures area being made aware of the violent truth behind AF-KLM’s public façade, before activists were gradually escorted out of the airport. Air France’s customers were left in no doubt as to what the company is supporting.

Take this as a message Air France – while you continue to exploit animals, we’ll continue to highlight your shameful practices. Make the ethical decision and follow the example of numerous airlines before you, it’s time to cut your ties with vivisection!
