Friday, 30th September

French activists took part in the global day of action against AstraZeneca, one of Huntingdon Life Sciences' major customers. HLS is Europe's largest animal testing laboratory. 500 animals are killed every single day for profit. The activists chose AstraZeneca's shareholders (Blackrock, Legal & General and AXA) as targets for the day of action.

The demonstrators had a surprise when they arrived in front of the first target. They were faced with a closed metal shutter which had been lowered by Blackrock just for them. It was our first demo in front of Blackrock's offices, the company must have taken the demo very seriously otherwise, why the paranoia?

Second surprise in front of the second target, Legal & General. The activists were welcomed by a gang of policemen. The most imposing one stopped us from starting the demo and told us that we had to have our demo across the street (without a hello or even looking at us!), that the authorities had changed the place of the demo (without warning us...), faced with the activists' stubbornness they changed their minds and let us have our demo in the predetermined place, at the entrance of the building.

Megaphones were used in the courtyard of the building until a man came to close the main doors at the entrance. Megaphones were then directed to the windows. The same man came back with a female colleague to take our picture or film us with his iPhone giggling like children. One must be very mature to work with money...

The activists ended the day of action with AXA. Once again, a metal grill closed the main entrance. What have they got to hide?

All day the demonstrators chanted slogans to AstraZeneca's shareholders and reminded them that they had to convince AstraZeneca not to deal with HLS anymore or sell their shares. A banner (“This company makes money from the suffering of animals.”) and posters showed graphic images of vivisection. Many leaflets were given out to passers-by.

It's no good hiding in your offices, we'll not go away until you stop investing in the vivisection industry.
