Today, activists went to the City to name and shame the main shareholders of AstraZeneca, which help keep open that sick hell-hole known as HLS.

First we visited Legal & General Investment Management, at 1 Coleman Street, London EC2R 5AA (Tel: 020 3124 3000 and 0800 027 7169), where we did a loud protest so the so ‘decent looking employees’ couldn’t avoid to listen to an example of what the company they work for invest in at HLS: 48 Beagles had their backs shaved, then an anti-psoriatic cream applied every day for 30 days. This resulted in open sores and blisters on the dogs' backs. The dogs had their bodies bound in tight sticky plaster and they had to wear large head collars to stop them pulling at the plasters as they were in pain. Dogs extremely thin with their fur standing on end, visibly shaking and often so scared they were unable to leave their cages; Animal technicians putting the needle under the beagle puppies’ skin prod in different directions 15 times before finding a vein.

Then we went to BlackRock Investment Management (UK) Limited, at Drapers Gardens, 12 Throgmorton Avenue, London EC2N 2DL (Tel: 0800 44 55 22 and 020 7743 3000) where we carried on mentioning the horrors exposed at HLS: Puppy with half a pint of congealed bloody faeces around his cage. The vet looks at him and says it is all right to continue with the daily doses; Needles being repeatedly put into the dogs legs, over and over; A monkey being cut open during a necropsy whilst still alive; Researcher yells at a frightened monkey: "Calm down before I bite your face!"; Technicians yell and scream as a monkey is strapped down. One says sarcastically: "I'm sure the sponsor will love that." A second technician comments "bring up their heart rates just a little bit more." Whilst a third says: "You can wipe your ass on that data."

Finally we went to AXA's UK HQ, at 5 Old Broad Street, London EC2N 1AD (Tel: 020 7920 5900) were we kept listing the exposes inside HLS: One male marmoset suffered an irreversible fracture to the left Femur while being restrained within the gangcage; Piglet organs were grafted onto primates’ necks, into their abdomens and replaced their own healthy organs; Animal technicians grabbing beagle puppies by the scruff, shouting and swearing at them, swinging them by the scruff and slapping them; Monkeys vomiting faeces and bleeding from the nose.

We won't stop fighting until this hell-hole is closed down once and for all. Stop investing in animal abuse!
