PRIMATE LIBERATION WEEK PROTESTS AGAINST AIR FRANCE & HLS SUPPLIER
Saturday, 13th October
On Saturday late afternoon and into the evening, DC area animal rights activists staged two residential protests as part of National Primate Liberation Week. Protesters were able to catch both of their targets at home this time around.
The first protest was at the home of the French Ambassador, over the continuing willingness of Air France/KLM to ship animals to vivisection laboratories. The French government owns 20 percent of Air France/KLM stock after a failed attempt to nationalize the airline. That means the French government can stop the shipment of animals to laboratories on this airline. Even China's national airline now refuses to ship animals to laboratories.
The second protest, well after dark, was at the home of Danaher Senior Vice President Jonathan Graham. Danaher is the corporate parent of Beckman Coulter, supplier of laboratory equipment to puppy-killing Huntingdon Life Sciences or HLS. Beckman Coulter is attempting to silence protesters in LA by spending more on lawyers seeking an injunction that the value of their $85,000 contract with HLS.
The protest was the third protest so far at the home of Jonathan Graham.
After about 15 minutes the first cop car showed up, soon to be followed by two more. Due to Mary Cheh's law that effectively legalized home demos up to 10 PM, the cops were limited to telling protesters they "had until 10 PM" and trying to intimidate protesters by playing the police radio into the PA system and making threats of arrest for distributing leaflets to passengers in passing cars. The threats were bluffs and were not acted upon.
The cops also turned almost every light they had on during the protest. lighting it up like a Hollywood movie set. This made the protest far more visible, I don't know if they were attempting to allow security cameras to take better photos. It certainly improved our own pictures.
The protest continued almost another half hour, including an "encore" after one of the cops responded to the "We'll be back" by clapping his hands into the PA system.
